A different approach to support

Real, consistent support grounded in mental health experience and built for everyday life.

Support that understands real life

Out and About Community Support provides personalised NDIS support with a strong focus on mental health, routine, and real-world outcomes.

This isn’t just about providing support hours, it’s about helping people build confidence, stability, and a life that feels more manageable.

We work alongside participants, families, and support teams to provide support that is consistent, practical, and genuinely helpful.

Built on real mental health experience

Michael is a highly experienced Mental Health Nurse and registered health practitioner with AHPRA, bringing over 25 years of experience across mental health, public health, and community care.

He has worked across a wide range of settings, including acute mental health, rehabilitation, community services, and aged care, and has led mental health teams across the Newcastle region.

His approach is grounded in trauma-informed care, with a strong focus on understanding the individual, reducing barriers, and supporting people to live more independently.

Experience that shapes how support is delivered

With a background in complex mental health support, the focus is always on what works in real life, not just theory.

Support is delivered in a way that is calm, practical, and consistent, helping people build confidence, structure, and independence over time.

We work alongside people in their everyday environments, providing support that feels achievable, respectful, and grounded in real-world experience.

What makes this approach different:

  • Support is shaped by real experience in mental health, not just general support training.

This means understanding how things like anxiety, trauma, low motivation, and overwhelm can show up in everyday life. and responding in a way that is calm, respectful, and appropriate to the situation.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, support is adapted to the individual, with a focus on what feels manageable, safe, and achievable.

  • Consistency is a key part of building trust and progress.

We prioritise reliable, familiar support so participants are not constantly adjusting to new people or changing routines.

Over time, this helps create a sense of stability, making it easier to build confidence, establish routines, and feel comfortable in the support environment.

  • Support doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens in everyday life.

We work alongside participants in real environments such as the home, the community, and daily routines, helping build skills in a way that is practical and meaningful.

This approach supports genuine independence, rather than relying on structured or artificial settings that don’t always translate to real life.

  • Support is delivered in a way that is relaxed, respectful, and easy to engage with.

There’s no pressure to perform, no judgement, and no expectation to “have it all together.”

The focus is on meeting people where they are, building trust over time, and creating a space where people feel comfortable to engage at their own pace.

  • Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen with the right support.

We focus on small, meaningful steps that build over time, helping participants develop confidence, routine, and independence in a way that is sustainable.

This might look like gradually increasing community engagement, building daily structure, or working toward longer-term goals such as employment or independent living.
